Objectives

improving biological quality of planting material by using new ecotypes of portaltoi free of viroses, with high efficiency in multiplication and good compatibility with the varieties;

determining compatibility between rootstocks/ variety which ensures the precocity and accelerated growth of fruit crops;

breeding of rootstocks with high adaptability to pedo-climatic conditions in order to increase the productivity of trees plantations as well as improve the quality of production;

spreading informations among specialists as well as among amateurs about trees varieties multiplied within Baneasa Research Station and about recommended portaltoi for each species;

obtaining genuine, healthy and qualitatively guaranteed rootstock by "in vitro" multiplication method in short time and big quantities;

control tree vigor and efficient use different types of soil by using specific rootstock;

seedling selections of local clones in order to obtain new generative rootstock;

using cutting techniques (during the green period or in winter time) to obtain vegetative rootstock;

increase the percentage of total production of grafted trees of new created varieties by Baneasa Research Station;

diversifying grafting methods and periods and projecting the crown while still in second field;

containerized production of tree planting and dendrological material.

Results

Initiating the registration procedure in 2004 for two peach rootstock TITAN and BUCUR.

TITAN

BUCUR

Tree: low vigor, semi erect shape, round crown, mixed branches of medium thickness with small-medium internodes, anthocyanic pigmentation, high density of flowery buds all along bearing branches.

Medium (28.03 - 10.04) and quite long (12 days) flowering period.

Flower: campanulate dark pink flower with small petals. Stamina are shorter than petals with anthers full of pollen.

Fruit: small, round, symmetrical, medium pubescent. Skin: greenish background, brown-reddish foreground all over fruit surface. Flesh: white color, strong anthocyanin pigmentation near kernel, medium solidity, medium juiciness, slightly fibrous texture. Kernel: medium size, round-ovate, dark brown, adherent to flesh.

Medium-late maturation period (10-20.08); spread ripeness; high germination percent.

High compatibility with all varieties;

Medium (26.03 - 05.04) flowering period on an average of 12 days.

Flower: rosaceous, light pink flower with large petals.

Fruit: small, round, symmetrical, medium pubescent. Skin: greenish background, reddish foreground all over fruit surface. Flesh: white color, slightly reddish, medium solidity, medium juiciness, fibrous texture. Kernel: medium size, round-ovate, dark color, non adherent to flesh.

Late maturation period (28.08-10.09); ripeness spread over 1-2 weeks.

Portaltoiul has high compatibility with all varieties of peach and nectarine, resistance against diseases; nu drajoneaza; high germination percent.
