Floriculture Laboratory
Research themes have been included within the program "Preserving the national genetic fund and creating new varieties and hybrids of main flower varieties".

Each stage of the program contained defined objectives the most important being setting up, maintaining and enriching the genetic collection of decorative plants.


Objectives

collecting species of indoor flowers with special decorative aspect;
creating new varieties and hybrids of flowers species;
establishing multiplication methods of decorative plants species;
elaborating cultivation technologies;
establishing nutrition conditions for houseplants;
establishing measures of preventing and fighting against pathogen agents of decorative plants;
growth control of the ornamental parts of houseplants;


Results

The genetic resources of indoor ornamental plants are composed of 318 genera and species having 932 cultivars.

study of biological needs of collected species in single green houses;
grouping the species according to their natural conditions and study of the adaptability to Romanian natural conditions;
establishing temperature, light and humidity parameters favorable for the development of each species;
elaboration and registration of multiplication and cultivation technologies for ornamental plants species within collections;
elaboration and registration of nutrition technologies for flowers species within collections;
identifying pathogen agents of decorative plants;
establishing integrated fight technologies.
