Biotechnology Laboratory
CURRENT RESULTS

In actual market economy conditions it is necessary to apply modern methods for obtaining flowers planting material characterized by high productivity, better resistance against diseases and pests and conformity with modern society consumers requirements.

Consequently the activity of the laboratory has been directed as follows:

Intensive clonal multiplication of flowers genotypes of the national collection - chrysanthemum, freesia, orchid, rose, gerbera etc.
Obtaining clones free of viroses and other cryptogamic diseases based on systemic infected plants.
Shortening production cycle by accelerating the obtaining of planting material.
Revitalizing greenhouse cultures by replacing the old or sick ones.
Obtaining planting material and introducing new species of decorative plants; three varieties of Lisianthus have been introduced in culture - with purple, pink and white flowers - and one species of decorative plant less known in Romania.

Stabilization of in vitro culture methods and obtaining qualitatively superior planting material for:

Apricot rootstocks: Stella, Constanşa 14, Constanşa 16, Haggith, Goldcot
Peach rootstocks: peach 91.06.52 BVI, Rutgers Red Leaf, 92.07.48 BVI, Isthara, 93.06.81 BV, Siberian C
Strawberry varieties: 87-25-40 H1/2000, Cardinal, Favette, 89-32-15 H2/2000, Hood, Marmolada
