Research Activity
An activity extended over an area covering 5 counties from the south part of the country implies the orientation of research activity according to the needs of fruit tree growing development within this ecological area of the country.

Structure of ownership with more that 70% of plantations in private system and the new concept of biological fruit growing impose a new direction of research.

Consequently the thematic plan of Baneasa Station has been conceived to cover the following domains:

Genetics and breeding of species that meet the requirements of Romanian Plain area: apricot, peach, nectarine, strawberry, fruit bushes (red currant, raspberry).
Study of adaptability of new varieties of cherry, sour cherry, summer apple, pear, quince, comestible plum in order to recommend the most competitive ones to growers within the studied area.
Providing the cultivars for a five-moth period in order to supply the market with fresh fruit.
Diversify a range of pollution resistant deciduous trees and conifers in order to maintain the ecological balance around Bucharest.
Develop the research in modern biotechnologies, molecular biochemistry, phytoprotection and tree physiology.
